A  New Year-Round Workshop in Maine

Welcome to Light-Chasers Photographic Workshops

Harpswell, Maine

Our Workshops are held at the beautiful Harpswell Inn near historic Harpswell Center.  The Inn is only ten miles from downtown Brunswick and Bowdoin Collage, eighteen miles from L.L. Bean in Freeport, and less than an hour from Portland International Jetport.  The Inn is also less than three hours from Logan International, Boston, and ten minutes from my home!

I wanted a location that would allow folks the luxury of a classic New England Colonial Inn for our teaching programs, and wonderful photography at your doorstep on beautiful Middle Bay.  You’ll love the peace and quite here and the chance for both sunrise and sunsets from Lookout Point, and many other locations.

Our Harpswell Workshop makes it easy for most folks to get to, yet it will feel like worlds away from where you came.  The town of Harpswell has the distinction of having about 216 miles of coastline and about 55 Islands, which is more than any town in the U.S.  It also has one of the largest concentrations of Lobstering Harbors on the East Coast.

This will be a workshop that will appeal to almost everyone.  It's close, it's beautiful, and less expensive for the large population of folks living here on the East Coast.

Camera Clubs:  This will also give your camera club a great place to go for a weekend workshop.

Details, Pricing, Schedules and Dates will be ready by August 15th.

A Great New Website: http://paworkshops.net/

Started by my good friend David Middleton, the Photographer’s Alliance Workshops (PAW) is a new photography workshop and tour company dedicated to exemplary teaching and superb photography. It is a community of professional photographers (of which I am proud to be one!) brought together to teach and to share their passion for photography. Simply, we are photographers from all over the country who love to help other photographers be their best. No nonsense, no excuses, no inflated egos, no huge overhead; just folks taking pictures, teaching photography and loving what they are doing. PAW is how photography ought to be taught.

Be sure to check it out as well as my New Hampshire and Coastal Maine workshops coming this fall! http://paworkshops.net/

Thanks!
Gary

Image Preparation: The Key to Success!

It is an easy editing guide that takes you through the same steps that I take when editing an image.  I'll show you how to do this whether you are using Photoshop Elements 6.0, CS3 or Adobe Lightroom.  It is based on my strong opinion that you need to get it right in the camera first.  If you do, you will spend far less time in front of the computer and more time out shooting!

Coming soon:  A brand new book called; "From Picture to Digital Print."

This new book will be sort of a "Photographer's Bible."  It will start out with a great refresher course on composition and lighting.  Then it will cover in-camera set-up and preparation, and it will delve into Gary's easy-to -understand methods of editing your images, based on the concept of "Getting it Right in the Camera First."  Gary's new book will also cover how he uses the fabulous software from NIK Software, www.niksoftware.com  to improve the quality of your images even more!  Again he will include editing techniques for Adobe Elements, Photoshop and Lightroom.  The final part of the book will cover Gary's method of "Creating Great Digital Prints."  Many of you saw his program on printing at the NECCC conference in July.

We hope to have the book ready for sale on-line via PayPal by January 2010.

A series of new teaching CDs, DVDs and eBooks are available now from our new website www.usphotogroup.com
Be sure and check it out!

The Coastal Maine Travel Guide is here!  (PC only right now!)

This is a great CD of my favorite places to photograph on the coast of Maine.
This 35 minute CD is filled with over 200 images, illustrations, maps and shooting tips, narrated by me, and accompanied with beautiful background music by my friend and accomplished pianist Lori Tremblay.  This is a must have gift for anyone who is planning a trip here.  With close to 3,500 miles of beautiful coastline (more than the state of California), and 3,000 offshore Islands, it may take you a while!

I will be producing the Acadia CD very soon!  It's loaded with more great shooting locations and was just too big for my Coastal Maine CD!

The CD is available on the USPhotoGroup website through PayPal, for $19.95 plus shipping.

Now Back to Light-Chasers:

Web Gallery:  We've posted our Gallery of Images.  I've been looking for a way to create a nice gallery that would represent my images well.  You can enter my Gallery from here or on my gallery page.

New for the 2009:  I will be scheduling more One-Day Seminars and we are very excited to announce the new Light-Chasers Workshop.  We have our eye on three beautiful workshop locations here in New England where we will hold our teaching and photographing sessions.  We also plan to release several new books and CDs in order to have them available at these teaching programs.

Light-Chasers

For years, Light-Chasers has been about the joy and excitement of photography, about the thrill of chasing the light in an effort to capture an image that moves ones soul and captures ones heart.  It's been about sharing with you my excitement for nature and the outdoors.  I'm sure everyone has his or her own idea as to what makes photography so special in there lives.

For over fifteen years, I've led photo tours and lectured to photographic clubs and organizations in both the U.S. and Canada.  For the past four and a half years, I've been writing regular monthly articles on photography, for both film and digital shooters.  As both a senior editor, a managing editor, a tour leader and seminar instructor, it has become obvious to me that teaching has played an equally important part in sharing my love for photography.

I've decided that one of the best ways to share the knowledge and experience that I have gained over the past twenty-five years of photography, was to create my own website.

I like keeping things simple and easy for any photographer to understand. whether a seasoned or beginning photographer, I want you to be able to absorb the informative articles, books and photographs so that you'll come away saying: "Wow, I finally get it, this really makes sense."

I believe that there are more than enough forums and blogs out there to last a life-time.  So, while you're more than welcome to comment on my articles or ask questions, this won't be the place for those kinds of on-line discussions.

Any questions feel free to email me at    gary@light-chasers.com

See you soon!

Gary W. Stanley
